Coalition for Bright Futures is an involved and engaged group of Dewitt county community members from many diverse backgrounds. Coalition for Bright Futures in conjunction with the Dewitt County Prevention Center has been awarded the Strategic Prevention Framework grant, which focuses on preventing and educating students and parents of the risks of underage drinking. The coalition has been striving to better the DeWitt County community, always keeping in mind their mission: “Educating, motivating and improving the lives of youth and DeWitt County citizens by reducing underage alcohol use through prevention, advocacy, and evidence-based prevention strategies.”

Data from the Dewitt County 2016 Illinois Youth Survey (a self-reported, confidential student survey for 8th- 12th grade students taken biannually) reported that 44% of high school-age youth obtained alcohol from their parents with their permission, while 28% of youth obtained alcohol from their parents without their permission.” These staggering numbers caused the coalition to focus on lowering these specific numbers through the ‘WE ARE MORE’ parent communication campaign. This campaign is aimed at helping parents understand their important role in preventing youth from drinking. We believe parents must work together to end underage drinking to build a better future for their kids.
