Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Third grade students are moving toward greater independence in their work and organizational skills.  We continue to devop strong reading, language, writing, and mathematics skills, while increasing the emphasis on content areas such as science and social studies.  This is a challenging and highly rewarding year as we prepare students for the transition to fourth grade in Mansfield. This is also the first year that students complete the state assessments (ISAT) in reading, mathematics and writing.

The Accelerated Reader program is used to encourage students to read for enjoyment and get much-needed practice.  Second and third grade students read and take comprehension quizzes on books at their level.  Children earn points for each book read.  Awards and prizes are given when students reach specific point levels.  The Accelerated reader program was implemented in October 2002.  In 2007-2008 over 12,600 books were read by our 2nd and 3rd grade students !!
