Congratulations to senior Rachel Light on being selected for the 2025 BRHS Booster Art Purchase Award. Her art was showcased in the BRHS Fine Arts Exposition and was selected by staff members to be displayed proudly in the high school hallways. Not only did Rachel receive a recognition award and will have her art displayed permanently at BRHS, but through the generosity of the BRHS Boosters, she received a $100 monetary award. Congratulations Rachel!

Blue Ridge will join the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the twelfth statewide survey of school climate and learning conditions. The survey provides a unique opportunity for 4th-12th grade students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools. Please see the informational letter here: https://5il.co/38aq7. Students and teachers will take their survey between February 26 and March 28. The parent survey is open and will remain open through March 28. You may access the parent survey here: https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/. These surveys will serve as an opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide implementation. You will receive reminders during the survey window as we highly encourage all our teachers, students, and parents to make their voices heard to impact positive growth in our schools. #br_u_knighted

Today, BRHS sent 6 students to the Parkland Exploring Ag Mechanics Expo. While there, the students learned about a variety of technical programs offered at Parkland, learned about autonomous pieces of farm equipment, and even competed in an R.C. tractor pull contest, where they placed 2nd.

Congratulations to Kaylyn Eliason on her induction into the BACC Technical Honor Society!

This week, Mrs. Brackenhoff's class has been exploring nonfiction books and their unique text features. Students teamed up for an exciting Nonfiction Scavenger Hunt, searching for key elements like table of contents, captions, maps, and diagrams in real nonfiction texts. It was incredible to see their enthusiasm and collaboration as they worked together!
This activity is preparing students for an exciting new challenge—writing their very own nonfiction books, which they begin next week!

Schneider students finished Read Across America Week festivities with an assembly where we announced the winner of our UKnighted In Books Award for 2025. K-3 students at Schneider voted on their favorite of our nominees and David Biedrzycki's Invasion of the Unicorns won! We followed the announcement with our "Book Madness" Relays.

8th Grade students recently had a great field trip exploring different careers!

I have had a few different people ask me recently about how to be a host family for a foreign exchange student. Here is an email from the coordinator for a program that has sent quite a few students to BRHS recently. Please consider.
Dear Blue Ridge Families,
We have an exciting opportunity for your family to welcome an international exchange student into your home for the 2025-2026 school year! EF High School Exchange Year is currently looking for host families in Central Illinois, and we have several incredible students eager to experience life in the Midwest.
Hosting an exchange student is a rewarding experience that brings cultural enrichment to your family, school, and our community. As a host family, you’ll have the unique opportunity to learn about a new culture while providing a student with a loving home and an unforgettable American high school experience.
If you are interested in learning more and viewing student applications to find the right match for your family, please reach out to Jayme Corcoran at corcoranj@district87.org or visit https://efexchangeyear.org/iec/jayme-corcoran/
Thank you for considering this incredible opportunity!

This cute purse and hand sanitizer was left at the high school Talent Show on Friday 2/28.
If it's yours, please call the high school office to claim! 309-928-2622.
